NetworkNewsBreaks – Marijuana Company of America, Inc. (MCOA) JV Completes Setup of 10,000 sq. ft. Greenhouse Space

Innovative hemp and cannabis corporation Marijuana Company of America (OTC: MCOA) this morning announced the completion of the setup of 10,000 sq. ft. of greenhouse space in its Washington-based joint venture (“JV”) with Bougainville Ventures, Inc. Pending the completion of an anticipated inspection this week, the tenant grower will be able to commence cultivation in the greenhouse space. The setup marks the first 10,000 of an intended 30,000 square foot facility with the capacity to hold approximately 4,000 plants. “As landlords we are looking forward to providing a turnkey property to the first of hopefully many licensed tenants in Washington. Providing a turnkey facility for tenant growers is an ideal cultivation environment for tenants with minimal start-up capital and consistent rental income for MCOA,” MCOA CEO Donald Steinberg stated in the news release.

Banksy mural on garage in Wales sold but will stay in place

Jan 19, 2019

LONDON — A British art dealer says he has bought a mural stenciled by street artist Banksy on a garage wall in Wales for more than 100,000 pounds ($129,000). The artwork in Port Talbot shows a child playing in falling ash from a dumpster fire, an apparent reference to the steel town's air pollution. Security guards were hired to protect the work after it appeared in December on a steelworker's garage. John Brandler of Brandler Galleries in eastern England said Friday he has agreed that the mural will stay in place for at least two years. He said "I want...

Oxford suspends research funding from China's Huawei

Jan 19, 2019

LONDON — Oxford University says it is suspending research grants and funding donations from Huawei amid growing security concerns about the Chinese telecom giant. It's another setback for Huawei's image in Europe, an important market for the company, which has been effectively blocked in the U.S. over concerns its technology poses a cybersecurity risk. It's now facing increasing scrutiny in Europe, where it is expected it to play a major role in building new fifth-generation mobile networks. The university decided on Jan. 8 that "it will not pursue new funding opportunities" with Huawei or related companies, it said in a...

China, Germany promise closer financial cooperation

Jan 19, 2019

BEIJING — China and Germany promised Friday to open their markets wider to each other's banks and insurers, giving Beijing a burst of positive trade news amid conflicts with Washington and Europe. The two sides also affirmed support for a global trading system that other governments worry is threatened by President Donald Trump's "America first" policies. That followed an annual financial dialogue led by German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz and China's economy czar, Vice Premier Liu He. The initiatives reflect Beijing's determination to make its state-dominated economy more productive and reduce reliance on the U.S. market by building commercial ties...

Facebook shuts hundreds of Russia-linked pages, accounts

Jan 19, 2019

LONDON — Facebook said Thursday it removed hundreds of Russia-linked pages, groups and accounts that it says were part of two big disinformation operations targeting users outside the U.S. The social media company said its latest effort to fight misinformation came after it found two networks "that engaged in coordinated inauthentic behavior" on Facebook and its Instagram service. Facebook's head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, said in a blog post that one network operated in countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, Central Asia and the Caucasus. The other focused on Ukraine. "We didn't find any links between these...

China says economy czar to visit Washington for trade talks

Jan 19, 2019

BEIJING — The top U.S. and Chinese trade envoys will hold talks in Washington this month in a possible sign of progress toward ending a costly tariff battle over Beijing's technology ambitions. The Ministry of Commerce announcement of the Jan. 30-31 event was the first sign of a next step by the two sides following negotiations in Beijing earlier this month between lower-level officials. China's economy czar, Vice Premier Liu He, was invited by U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, the ministry said. Economists and business groups said earlier that a decision by Liu and Lighthizer to take part in person...
